Are Christians Wicked?
2
Desperation Band is a amazing band, but nonetheless they still have some old covenant songs. For starters they have this song that goes like the following, “I feel like a blind man in your sight, I know that I’m wicked in your eyes.” This song brings up an interesting conversation. So, let’s look at a passage of scripture to understand what the Bible says.
This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous 50 and throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. – Mathew 13:47-50
Now first of all, I do believe I was wicked at one time in my life (before Christ), but after one has received Christ it is not Biblical to say you are wicked because (according to Mathew 13:19) the wicked do not make it to heaven. It says the wicked are separated from the righteous.
There are 2 kinds of people
- The Righteous
- The Wicked
The question is… Which one are you? Biblically you are righteous.
God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. – 2 Corinthians 5:21
The Help
Have you ever seen the movie, “The Help?” In this movie the character, “Aibileen” takes care of a little girl. Throughout the movie, Aibileen sits this little girl down and says, “You is Kind, You is Smart, You is Important.” It’s probably the most memorable part of the movie because of the love Aibileen shares. Now, If someone who is unsaved would think I was crazy telling my kid, “you is evil, you is dumb, you is wicked,” how much more our loving father want us to see ourselves as wicked? Imagine if Aibileen told the little girl the following:

If you wouldn’t want someone telling this to your kid, what makes you think God wants someone telling that to His children? So for someone to say that they are wicked and righteous at the same time, is confusing. What are you? Biblically you are Righteous (Saved by the unearned favor of God) or you are wicked (Unsaved). When you realize you are Righteous, you will do righteous things, and when you think you are wicked, you will do wicked things. To back this up with some scripture, let’s turn to Proverbs…
For as he thinks within himself, so he is… – Proverbs 23:7
When someone thinks they are evil, wicked, or a sinner, so is he. A sinner sins because he is a sinner. A janitor sweeps because he is a janitor. Proverbs tells us that the way you see yourself effects the way you act. In the same manner if you think the way God thinks about you, and if see yourself as righteous, you will do righteous actions.
My friend God has cast all your sins as far as the east is from the west! God has made you a new creation. So what are you? Saved or Unsaved, Wicked or Righteous? One last note, God declares in this new covenant that He will remember your sins no more! How can He call you wicked or think about you as a wicked person if He remembers our sins no more?
I will make a new covenant… It will not be like the covenant
I made with their ancestors… I will be their God… I will forgive their wickedness
and will remember their sins no more. – Hebrews 8:8-12
